Guadalupe River Paddling Trail

The Guadalupe Valley Paddling Trail is a 13.8 mile paddling trail located in DeWitt County, just outside of Cuero. The trail can be enjoyed with a half day trip, or only a few miles of it with a couple of hours on the water. Each fall, hundreds of millions of monarch butterflies migrate from the United States and Canada to overwintering areas in Mexico and California where they wait out the winter until conditions favor a return flight in the spring. The monarch migration is truly one of the world's greatest natural wonders, yet it is threatened by habitat loss in North America - at the overwintering sites and throughout the spring and summer breeding range as well.

Located in the Guadalupe Loop of the Texas Coastal Birding Trail, Cuero is a splendid location from which to base daily forays into the rich grass and brush lands of DeWitt County. Drop by the Visitor Information Center at the Chamber for information about areas for viewing The grasslands of this region are renowned for wintering sparrows, and roadside birding is the rule here.
